d4c129b2b6160daf518934f9009ebe9fThe Regional Children’s Hospital was established in 1955, after the city of Lipetsk was awarded regional center status. In the first years of our existence, we were staffed with only three pediatricians additionally trained in otolaryngology, radiology and neurology. In 1982, the hospital opened a new diagnostics and treatment unit, marking the beginning of a modern phase in its history.

Recent years have seen considerable changes in our hospital, with its equipment and facilities modernized, service quality enhanced and medical help made more available for local children.

Today, we are the only healthcare institution in the region where a multi-disciplinary team of doctors and advanced equipment make it possible to provide the best medical care to children aged 0 to 14 and teens aged 17 and under. We have an inpatient unit with 468 beds and an outpatient clinic for consultations and diagnostics where physicians with 29 specialties examine about 500 patients per shift. Our first-aid station for children and mobile teams providing intensive care and out-of-hospital palliative care to children are unique options in the region.

Our staff of more than 150 employees includes 3 honored doctors of Russia, 10 PhDs in Medicine, 33 awardees for their excellent track record in public healthcare, and 15 external pediatric experts from the regional health care department.

Each year, over 16,000 children and teens undergo treatment in our 15 inpatient units designated for physical disorder therapy and surgery. The hospital applies state-of-the-art techniques in neurosurgery, oncology, pediatrics, traumatology and orthopedics, urology, neonatology, with over 300 children receiving advanced care at our trauma surgery, urology and neurosurgery departments under federal medical assistance programs each year.

In 2019, the hospital invested RUB 122.4 million to upgrade its equipment and facilities, improve the service quality and make medical care more available to local children.

As part of the Healthcare national project, we have modernized the children’s outpatient clinic for consultations and diagnostics, set the scene for our little patients and their parents to feel at home during their stay at hospital, adopted the modern concept of open reception desks, and upgraded the navigation system.

In cooperation with Rosatom, the hospital is implementing a lean healthcare management system.

We keep adopting sophisticated treatment practices, among them the use of imaging techniques in urological, orthopedic and neurological surgery.

Specifically, image intensifiers have brought our trauma surgery operations to a whole new level as they allow for overseeing the progress of a surgical intervention with the help of visualization, mitigating the traumatic effects by using minimally invasive procedures, and starting functional rehabilitation early on.

Our neurosurgery department performs cranioplasty to correct congenital and acquired skullcap defects by making stereolithographic models of severe skull deformities. To treat selective cerebral palsy, we have also embraced selective dorsal rhizotomy which reduces spasticity and, if carried out at early stages, the need for later orthopedic procedures.

In otolaryngology, the hospital has increased the share of surgical operations involving the use of general anesthesia, operating microscopes and endoscopes. The endoscopic microdebrider-assisted adenotonsillectomy performed by our doctors is highly sought after among patients both in and outside the Lipetsk Region, potentially making the hospital a popular spot for medical tourists.

The hospital’s urological services now include the Marmar technique, one of the most effective surgical methods for varicocele treatment resulting in prevention of male infertility.

To cure anorectal malformalities in infants, we have adopted one-stage surgery with the use of operating microscopes and electric muscle stimulators.

The hospital also practices arthroscopy, which involves the application of biodegradable implants and minimally invasive operations to correct flat feet.

Knee arthroscopy is a minimally invasive operation performed in cases of knee ligament damage accompanied by patellar dislocation, and cruciate ligament rupture. The procedure helps reduce treatment duration, improve patient well-being and minimize the risk of complications.

Our cardiorheumatology department has embraced a biological agent therapy that successfully treats juvenile idiopathic arthritis previously regarded incurable.
